Board Minutes for September 29, 2021

Peggy Seppmann called the meeting to order at 10:05.

Present were: Peggy Seppmann, Dean Otto, Paige Attarian, Pete Hagert, Lori Ruch, Dennis Owens, and Arlene Nielsen.

The Minutes of the spring meeting were read and approved.

Dean Otto gave the Treasurer’s report. The Profit/Loss Statement showed an ordinary net income of $63.07 before solicited memorials of $3330.00 and unrealized investment gain of $15442.89 were recognized. This brought the net income as of September 28 to $18,835.96 Paige Attarian verified that bank and investment reports were in agreement with the financial statements. Dean reported that the $3330 receive in solicited memorials came for a letter handed out at the Memorial Day service and letters sent to some association members. Dean also suggested that we set up a meeting with our investment advisor and he will make the arrangements. The treasurer’s report was approved.

Pete Hagert gave a report of the condition of the cemetery which is generally good. The crushed asphalt brought in to help with road erosion seem to be doing a better job than the gravel. So far this year we have had six traditional burial and nine cremation burials. There is a need to clear some brush in the east cemetery along the north side of the north road. There are burials there and room for additional if cleaned up. The board will tour this area during the afternoon portion of the meeting. Noted also was a letter received from Marsha Othoudt regarding a chip in the marker of George Othoudt. This also will be looked at in the afternoon session. The superintendent’s report was approved.

Old Business Peggy Seppmann reported on the meeting with George Leary of Blue Earth County regarding the establishment of a pet cemetery at the west end of the cemetery property. Mr. Leary was not encouraging or helpful. Lori Ruch will call the Owatonna cemetery to see if they have any helpful information and Dean Otto will try to find a lawyer familiar with permitting in Blue Earth Co.

New Business Pete noted that the web site needs updating. Dean will take care of this.

Board elections were held with the following officers elected for 2022: Peggy Seppmann – President, Archie Kendall – Vice President, Barb Jackowell – Secretary and Dean Otto – Treasurer.
