Board Minutes for May 16, 2023

The meeting was called to order by President Peggy Seppmann at 10:00 am.

Present were: Peggy Seppmann, Dean Otto, Paige Attarian, Pete Hagert, Dennis Owens, Phyliss Granaas, Roger Anderson, and Arlene Nielsen.

The minutes of the September 13, 2022, meeting was read and approved.

The treasurer’s report was read and approved. Net assets on December 31, 2022, were $237,637.97. 2022 Profit and Loss showed a net loss of $6,396.95 in cemetery operations and a decrease in the value of the portfolio of $17,213.54.

The 2023 Profit and Loss report as of April 30, 2023, showed a net operating loss from cemetery operations of $841.51 but a net gain in the portfolio of $6,788.24 plus a memorial donation of $250.00

Superintendent Peter Hagert reported that there were 12 burials in 2022 with 7 of them being cremations. In 2023 we have had 3 burials to date. He also reported that the cemetery came through the winter with minimal damage to trees, bushes, and roads. Pete reported that Bob Lorenz will donate some blacktop millings to be place where there was some erosion. He will also donate a load of black dirt used to top off new graves and other areas of need. Some clean up will be needed along the north side of the east cemetery to make several grave sites suitable for sale. This will be done sometime soon. Pete reported that the urns have been planted and the VFW post 950 will perform Memorial Day services at 10:45 am. Flags will be placed on Thursday prior to Memorial Day.

New Business: A motion to approve the stipend of $100 to VFW Post 950 was passed.

A motion to approve the 2023 mowing contract with Ruch Construction of $ 1200 per mowing was passed.

There are two Screech Owl nests placed in the cemetery, part of a Bethany student project.

Pete Hagert gave a tour to the Boys in Blue of the 37 Civil War vets buried in Minneopa Cemetery

It was agreed to continue seeking approval of a “pet cemetery” on the far west end of cemetery property. Dean, Peggy, and Paige will speak to various individuals with the county.

The fall meeting is tentatively scheduled for September 16th.
