Board Minutes for May 10, 2016

Archie Kendall called the meeting to order at 10:05.

Present were: Dean Otto, Archie Kendall, Peggy Seppmann, Doug Johnson, Arlene Neilsen, Dennis Owens, Barbara Jackowell, Phyllis Granaas, and Pete Hagert.

The Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.

Treasurer's Report Dean Otto gave the Treasurer’s report. The Profit/Loss Statement for January through December of 2015 showed a $10,547.10 loss and for the January 1, through May 10th, 2015 period showed a net income of $7,442,43. Dean stated that lawn care costs were up due to having to hire extra mowing. The taxes were still at the accountants and would cost $175.00. There was no interest income last year as all the CD’s were turned in and the income came from the investment. The investment fund lost $4,351.74 in 2015.

$2,000.00 was withdrawn from the investment funds to cover some bills. For instance, we prepay the lawn care bill , in order to get a 10% discount on the total bill. This was shown on the Balance Sheet of December31, 2015.

A question was asked if the cemetery could invest in Corporate Bonds. It was suggested that Ken Meixner (625-3127) be contacted to discuss that possibility.

The check from the VFW has finally been cashed. The treasurer’s Report was approved and seconded.

Dale was not at the meeting so no superintendent report was made.

Dean said that burials were on pace, about normal. Dean will tell Dale to repair the road on the old side of the cemetery and haul in more gravel as needed. A discussion of maintenance at the cemetery determined that the Boy Scout who was going to paint the shed has withdrawn from the project. Pete will check if the project could be used for community service by the Vet Court. The flagpole also needs paint.

Old Business: The possible Mausoleum was not recommended due to a lack of sales and possible vandalism. Terry Miller from Pilgrims Rest Cemetery was to be talked to about the idea of mausoleums.

Jeana will do the urns again so they will be ready and nice for Memorial Day.

Memorial Day program from the VFW will be at 10:45. If any cemetery puts on additional programing, it is usually only 10 or 15 minutes beyond that of the VFW. We again voted and seconded to give $200.00 to the VFW for their services.

Lynn Seppman resigned from the board. Dean recommended that we find an accountant to take over for him. Paige Attarian was suggested for the fall meeting as a new member. Dean said he was looking forward to his possible retirement and thought we should find someone who could possibly fill in for him.

The question was raised whether or not we should raise prices over the $200.00 costs for burials. This was tabled for Dean and Dale to discuss. All agreed to leave prices the same until we had Dale’s input.

Dale has a map of plots available in the old side of the cemetery. Most of these are single lots. The new side has a lot of plots open. The sign posted in the cemetery is not up to date.

We had a brief discussion of the new buffalo at the Park and discussed the problem of purity in the bull which has caused it to be rejected for the herd.

The September meeting was tentatively set for 9-13-16.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:25.
